Formal Invitation
Common Usages: dinners, formal receptions

e.g.
- 8.5"x3.75" on cardstock (fits easily into a #10 envelope)
Informal Invitation/Flyer
Common Usages: lectures, coffee breaks, retirement parties
Letter
Common Usages: dinners, formal receptions
- Should be signed by top administrative person. This person should be someone who will have a rold at the event (e.g. as emcee or host)
E-mail
Common Usages: news conferences, public events, announcements
- Method of inviting large numbers of people to a public event
- When time is limited
- Design invitations based on budget and event profile
- Send a campus map to off-campus guests or put map/directions on the invitation
- Be sure to follow "UW Building Names"

Content:
- Key message: "The University of Waterloo (or President David Johnston, etc) invites you to attend the xxx." (Note: if you are using the President's name on the invitations, please send to Marlene Haehn (ext. 32203). The President must be present at the event if his name is to be used on the invitations.
- Brief Description (Note: If speakers are listed and include the President, he should be listed last.)

- Location (room, building, University of Waterloo)
- RSVP details, name, phone, e-mail, RSVP deadline date
