UW Gazette, March 6, 1996 High school students will have a chance Tuesday to preview campus life, academic programs and services at UW. The 24rd annual Campus Day is expected to attract several thousand students, along with friends and family members, said Steve Little, director of the secondary school liaison office. Last year about 3,900 students, friends and parents attended Campus Day. "We hope that their experience on Campus Day will increase their interest in attending Waterloo," Little says in a publicity release. "Our main objectives are to provide information for our visitors and answer their questions, as well as to acquaint them with some of the people involved with our programs and services." They'll get to tour academic departments, gawk at the Student Life Centre and try out the cafeterias - while their parents get briefings about financial aid, campus housing and security issues. The annual Campus Day is an information-packed event for university-bound students. Most activities begin around 9 a.m. and continue until about 4:00, involving faculty, staff and students from nearly every department and student service area across the campus. Information sessions will cover such topics as co- operative education, health and safety, counselling, residence life, inter-university sports and campus recreation programs, financial aid and student life. The concourse of South Campus Hall will be the focal point for the day's events. Walking tours will start at the SCH concourse, where there'll be information booths and displays. UW's six faculties will hold special activities and tours: Applied health sciences activities are based at Matthews Hall; arts at Hagey Hall of the Humanities; engineering at Carl Pollock Hall; environmental Studies at the Environment Studies 1 building; mathematics at the Math and Computer building; and Science at Biology 1. The independent studies program and the four church colleges are also involved in the big day, offering tours and special visitor events. Organizers warn each Campus Day that parking will be at a premium - staff, faculty and students are urged to car- pool or take the bus if they can - and that food outlets will be crowded on Tuesday.
