Royal Trust, a member of the Royal Bank Group, has donated $100,000 over five years to Campaign Waterloo, the University of Waterloo's fundraising campaign, UW announced today. Royal Trust's gift comes in its 25th anniversary year in the community of Kitchener-Waterloo. "Royal Trust is proud to support excellence in education, and we are pleased to make this contribution to the University of Waterloo. Congratulations on your twenty- fifth year!" said Paul Patterson, Director and District Manager, Southern Ontario. "Waterloo is grateful for the faith Royal Trust is demonstrating in our University through its generous donation," said UW president James Downey. "We believe that the University of Waterloo has potential to become an even greater educational and economic resource, both within and beyond this region. Support from financial institutions like Royal Trust can only help us to build a better university and a better community," Downey said. The $100,000 donation comes as Campaign Waterloo pushes past the half way point, having already raised $53 million. The five-year campaign is seeking to raise $89 million for: physical improvements to the campus, such as a building to house environmental sciences and engineering; human resources, such as scholarships, plus support for teaching and research; equipment upgrades and additions; and several special projects, including improvements to student recreation facilities.
